This page is your complete guide to everything foraging! You may have already noticed some foraging items as you are playing, these are Berries, Mushrooms, Medicinal Leaves, and Apples. All of these items have a use, some more than others.
These berry bushes are often seen in fields, offering a short burst of energy for anyone running by. Each time you eat a berry you gain +2 water, and +15% run speed for 15 minutes. So if you are running around and see one of these bushes, you might as well eat a berry to move along a little faster. Red berries can be dried, and eventually crafted into a Red Tincture.
Apples are a bit more specific, spawning under Apple Trees. These can be found all over the map, though one particularly good place to find them is at Krasnoe. Each Apple provides +6 food and water, and +10% healing effectiveness for 15 minutes. Unlike the other three foraging items on this list, Apples are the only one that cannot be dried and turned into a tincture.
Mushrooms are the most visually difficult to spot out of the four. These spawn around the base of trees and bushes, usually hidden by the grass. They are thankfully highlighted in yellow, making them easier to spot when you approach. On their own, Mushrooms aren't all that useful, they only provide +2 Food. But they can be fried in a campfire or grill. Fried Mushrooms heal you by two HP, give you +6 food, and +10% satiety for half an hour. Mushrooms can also be dried and eventually crafted into the powerful Green Tincture.
These suspect looking plants can be harvested for Medicinal Leaves, which aren't very useful on their own. They heal you by three HP when eaten, at the cost of one water. Their primary use it to be dried then crafted into Yellow Tinctures.
The real end goal of foraging, is to create a whole bunch of powerful tinctures. These provide some useful buffs to your character, that you are definitely going to want in combat. Tinctures require either Dried berries, mushrooms, or leaves. To dry out these items, you will need to construct a Drying Rack out of 10x Branches, 10x Nails, and 5x Fishing Line. Place the Drying Rack somewhere in your base, and put your foraging items inside. Your items will slowly dry out over time at a rate of one item per two minutes.
Once you have 10 of any dried foraging item, combine them with two Painkillers and a Vodka to make your first tincture!
Below is a chart of all the tinctures you can make, and their crafting recipes:
