Tripwires are a craft-able trap that players can leave around the map, that will detonate whenever a player or AI steps in the wire. When the wire is tripped, there is a slight delay before the explosion of the attached grenade, just enough time to sprint away if you react quickly enough. The explosion is equal to that of the attached grenade, and equally as deadly. Tripwires stay on the map for a very long time, and persist past restarts. Its common for players to get kills with Tripwires while they are offline. An interesting quirk with the Tripwires, is that if the player who set it is online, the killfeed will show the exact distance between the online player, and anyone unfortunate enough to die to their trap. This can result in Tripwire kills over many Kilometers, and it is the only practical way to get a kill at that distance.
To place a Tripwire, right-click on the Tripwire in your inventory, and hit “Use."
There are 2 damaging types of Tripwires, one that uses the R5 grenade, and another that uses the F10. The F10 version has a larger area of effect, however the grenades are more rare than the R5's.
It is possible to set a Tripwire next too an Explosive Charge. Doing this will almost always kill anyone unlucky enough to break the wire, as the initial explosion will hit the Explosive Charge, resulting and a huge deadly blast. This larger blast is so big, that its impossible to escape the tripwire without taking a large amount of damage.
There are 5 colors of Smoke Tripwires, made with M-18 Smoke Grenades. These can be used to give away the location of enemy players, but a damaging tripwire will almost always be more useful.
To deactivate a Tripwire, you can shoot it, detonating the explosive. Or, you can use a pair of Plyers. This will destroy the tripwire, and drop the Grenade and Wire on the floor.
Tripwires can be crafted with these two recipes;
